    Child Porn Possession

Want to hear an unpopular opinion? With the arrest of the subway guy for attempting to have sex with minors, (Link) I did some thinking. I don't think that pedophiles should be punished nearly as badly as they are currently for the crime of possession of child porn. I am only talking about possession. I don't think they should be required to register as sex offenders and I don't think they should serve prison sentences. Are you raging yet? I believe that the people who produce the content or sell the content should be punished. In my opinion it is a victimless crime to possess said content. In my opinion, crimes that have no victim should not be crimes. "But NP, you're retarded, the child is the obvious victim." To that I say yes, the child was the victim, but unless the person who possesses the content also produced the content or is making money off the content, they aren't the perpetrator of the crime. "But won't people who have such content be motivated to commit such acts against children?" Unless you believe that violent video games cause people to want to commit violent acts, which studies have shown don't, then that argument is invalid. "But won't decriminalization of possession of child porn create incentive to produce the content?" It's already illegal to produce the content, there won't be a change to incentive. "Are you pedo?" No, I'm not a pedophile, I just dislike punishing people for committing crimes for which there are no victims.

To FBI, no I don't have child porn, please don't come raid me, it would be a waste of your time.

Except, every person with child porn on their computers says nothing to the FBI because why be on their radar at all. You really demonstrate your ability to use critical thinking every time you try to insult me.

I believe the VAST majority of people who possess child porn did not buy it, they just trade it around like we trade mp3's or movies. And like drugs, you really shouldn't punish the user, you punish the dealer.

About a few years ago, this guy was arrested, and was known as the largest child porn distributor.

Recently, this guy in Florida who looks like Gabe Newell was arrested for child porn.

unpopular opinion more like dumb ass opinion

you can't equate possession of CP to playing violent video games in terms of outcome, because being a pedophile is psychiatric disorder, aka, they are fucked in the head. Thus this is probably the best indicator for future child sexual abuse by the perpetrator, if they haven't already discreetly done it.

Sure, possession shouldn't merit the same punishments as the abusers and distributers, but it still merits punishment and vigilance of the possessor to prevent further heinous pedophile crimes.

No one is saying that pedos aren't gross. But what you are doing is jumping to conclusions that if pedo, then future or current child molester and that is simply not true. And, even if it were true, we can't and certainly should not police thoughts or desires, only acts. How you responded to me bringing this up is proof that you can't approach this subject rationally. Having a disorder is not a crime. There still is no victim in possessing child porn and non-acting pedophiles are unfairly prosecuted, much like homosexual's were.

Isn't it necessary to be part of some online community that produces and distributes that kind of content in order to acquire such stuff? I get your point since in my country it was the same argument used to legalize personal ammounts of marihuana.
In the case of pedophiles is like the crime of "receptación" in my country, which is applied to the people who is caught buying stolen stuff, they might not have stolen the goods, but by their actions they're supporting the way in which it was acquired (everyone has done it once or twice in my country anyway).

    Soporte en Español!
Will miss you, Hospitable Pyro Jack....

If you ever use tor, you will find that you don't have to be a member of any community to find such content.

    This thread is pointless.
You already earned my respect. Remember, it will only take a second to destroy the respect. Respect me and I will respect you. Disrespect me and I'll just ditch you.
